Empowered Athletes

Alverno Girls are Empowered to Be Athletes. With nine different teams in six different sports, Alverno Athletics has something for you. Branch out and try a new sport, or perfect the one you’ve loved for years–either way we want you to catch the Jaguar Spirit!

Following our philosophy and mission of empowering each young woman, Alverno athletics emphasize important lifelong lessons that transcend the playing field. Student athletes learn self-discipline, team work, commitment and sportsmanship through participating in sports, in addition to developing self-confidence, celebrating success and making lasting friendships.

We compete in the Horizon League in the CIF Southern Section along with Bishop Conaty-Loretto, Holy Family, Ramona Convent, Sacred Heart of Jesus, and San Gabriel Mission. Over the past few years, Alverno has found great success on the playing fields across multiple sports and we hope you will help us continue our winning ways! Go Jaguars!

ATHLETICS BOOSTER CLUB

Alverno Heights Academy now has an Athletics Booster Club to help support our Student Athletes. This year the Booster rep, Michael Bendy, with the help of the Athletic Director Ken Berry and various athletes and parents have worked concession stands at Rose Bowl games and concerts. Working these events will earn parents and students service hours. Girls must be 16 and must be accompanied by their parents. If you are interested in participating, please contact APA Sports Representative Michael Bendy at mmegjl@earthlink.net.

Coaching Quotes Graphic

Coach Berry/ Athletic Director- “I coach because I love sports, and I want the opportunity to pass that love on to our young athletes.  These young women in return inspire me with their dedication and hard work ethic.  I am grateful to be part of this process at Alverno. I want to teach the culture of athletics–the skills, discipline, leadership, team cohesiveness–and to encourage students to have fun in this process.”

Coach Lucinda- “I coach to share my enthusiasm and love of the game. I embrace the opportunity to teach skills and advance the softball knowledge of my student-athletes while instilling the character traits of discipline, industriousness, confidence, and competitive greatness that will serve them well beyond the softball field.”

Coach Guerrero- “I love that I will be coaching this season because it allows me to combine my love of teaching and volleyball! Coaching is a way to get to know students outside of the classroom and enrich them with a love for a sport that I have grown to love since I was in high school.”

Coach Alex – “Some say it’s wanting to spread their knowledge, others say it’s because they can no longer be an athlete, but for me I want to inspire these young women, show them that they are athletes, build their confidence, prove to them they are strong both physically and mentally but also help them to realize they don’t need to be the best of the best to be the best version of themselves.”
