About Alverno Heights Academy
Alverno Heights Academy (formally Alverno High School) is an independent, progressive, Catholic college-preparatory day school for young women in grades 9 – 12. Founded in 1960 by the Sisters of St. Francis, Alverno has been sponsored by the Immaculate Heart Community since 1978. The campus is located on the historic 13-acre Barlow estate in Sierra Madre, CA, which is about 20 miles from Downtown Los Angeles. Our students come from 75 feeder schools across Los Angeles County and the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys. A total of 65% of our student body receives some form of financial aid and 27% of our students will be the first in their family to go off to college. We celebrate diversity, and are proud that our campus community is made up of 78% students of color.
VISITING ALVERNO HEIGHTS ACADEMY
Alverno enthusiastically welcomes visits from college representatives during the Fall and Spring semesters. To maximize opportunities with all grade-levels, we encourage visits during our Monday – Thursday lunchtimes or our Wednesday afternoon Rotator period (1:55 – 2:45p). We can also schedule visits during class periods; however, only our Juniors and Seniors, with faculty permission, may miss class to attend college visits during class time. Should you have any of our students on your mailing list, feel free to forward the list to us and we will notify them of your upcoming visit.

If you have a SCOIR account, you can access our available calendar and schedule your visit here. Our SCOIR calendar is updated by mid-August for the Fall Semester and early-January for the Spring Semester of each academic year.
The majority of visits will take place in our new Learning Technology Center, where we can accommodate both small and large group presentations. You will have access to computer/projector equipment and wireless access. We also welcome opportunities for institutions to visit us virtually with Zoom and other online presentation tools.

We are a closed campus. In order to enter, please pull up to the Michillinda Avenue gate where our security will check you in. Please let them know you are here for Melissa Royal/College Counseling. They will direct you on where to park. After parking, please follow the signs for the Front Office where you will need to sign in with our receptionist and receive a name badge. Once checked in, our receptionist will provide you with directions to our Learning Technology Center.
Eastbound on I-210
- Take Exit 30B toward Rosemead Blvd N/Michillinda Ave.
- Use the Left hand lane to turn left onto E. Colorado Blvd..
- Use the left 2 lanes too turn left on S. Michillinda Ave.
- Campus will be on your right a couple blocks after Sierra Madre Blvd.
- Enter campus through the Michillinda Ave. Gate to check in with security.
Westbound on I-210
- Take exit 31 for Baldwin Ave toward Sierra Madre.
- Turn left onto W. Foothill Blvd.
- Turn right onto S. Michillinda Ave.
- Campus will be on your right a couple blocks after Sierra Madre Blvd.
- Enter campus through the Michillinda Ave Gate to check in with security.
